(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 1 – Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Friday hit back at his Italian counterpart for his comments on the situation in Gaza this week.
Speaking about Israeli strikes that have claimed civilian lives, Mattarella said on Wednesday that “it is difficult to see an unintentional repetition of mistakes in such a chain and not recognize obstinacy to kill indiscriminately”.
In a long post on X, Herzog said this was not the case.
“I have great respect for the President of the Italian Republic, my friend Sergio Mattarella,” Herzog said.
“For this very reason, I was saddened by some aspects of his recent statements on the situation in Gaza, and I felt the need to clarify the facts.
“Israel has no intention to kill indiscriminately.
“We just want to live in peace and security”. (ANSA).
