(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 28 – Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Monday that he called Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa after Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian Christian village of Taybeh in the West Bank overnight.
Tajani said he spoke to the Catholic prelate “to express my solidarity following yet another violent attack by Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
“The Israeli government has the duty to act, to stop these incursions, and to protect Palestinian citizens: Christians and Muslims in the West Bank deserve to live in peace and be protected,” Tajani said via X.
“The settlers continue to cross every line, even though they know that Christians represent an element of stability.
“Italy stands with the victims of this attack and reaffirms its commitment to a cessation of hostilities in #Gaza and the West Bank.
“We will evaluate, together with our European Union partners, the adoption of new sanctions against the violent settlers”.
