(ANSA) – ROMA, 28 LUG – Great success in Western Australia for the Italian Music Week, organized as part of the festival Italian Way – Perth Capital of Italian Creativity in the World 2025. The event, promoted by the Consulate of Italy in Perth and the Vecchi-Tonelli Conservatory of Modena and Carpi, featured concerts, recitals, conferences and high-level artistic collaborations, culminating in an extraordinary tribute to Italian Bel Canto at the Octagon Theatre of the University of Western Australia.
Among the stars of the review were Maestro Giuseppe Fausto Modugno, co-founder with Claudio Abbado of the Mozart Orchestra, world-renowned clarinetist Corrado Giuffredi, and pianist and conductor Paolo Andreoli, former accompanist pianist in the last years of Luciano Pavarotti. The final evening also featured tenor Giuseppe Infantino, internationally acclaimed performer and winner of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation’s Best Tenor award. Accompanied by the orchestra composed of musicians from the “Vecchi-Tonelli” Conservatory of Modena and the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Paolo Andreoli, Infantino enchanted the audience with a repertoire that paid tribute to the great Italian opera tradition.
The result of a collaboration with the Modena Conservatory of Music, the festival celebrated the role of music as an instrument of cultural diplomacy and connection between peoples, involving more than 20 professors and students from Italy, who gave additional concerts at the Fremantle Town Hall Theatre, Glasshouse Belmont, The State Library WA and Victoria Park Centre for the Arts, earning extraordinary success with audiences and critics.
“Italian music,” said the Consul of Italy in Perth, Sergio Federico Nicolaci, “is one of the highest expressions of our cultural identity. Bringing it here, in the Italian creativity capital of the world 2025, means strengthening ties and building bridges through the universal language of music and art.” Satisfaction was also expressed by Maestro Giuseppe Fausto Modugno, director of the Conservatory of Modena: “This collaboration with the Consulate of Italy in Perth is a source of great pride for us. Bringing the excellence of Italian music education to an international context such as Australia represents an extraordinary opportunity for growth, exchange and enhancement of the talent of new generations.” The initiative has also paved the way for new collaborations with musical institutions in Western Australia – including the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra – after previous experiences with UWA. The goal is to develop joint projects, academic exchange programs and future tours for young Italian musicians. The Italian Music Week confirmed the growing interest in Italian culture in Western Australia, fitting into an unprecedented calendar of events that will see Perth play a leading role on the international cultural scene throughout the year.
