(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 22 – WWII partisan Paola Del Din, known during the Resistance by the battle name “Renata,” and awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valour, turned 102 Friday.
She was born on August 22, 1923, in Pieve di Cadore (Belluno), and was the first Italian female paratrooper to make a war jump.
She served in the Osoppo Brigade and was an agent of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE), so much so that she was remembered by King Charles of the UK in his speech to the joint chambers of Parliament on April 9th.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has also repeatedly expressed her esteem, calling her “an extraordinary woman.” (ANSA).
