(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 28 – Foreign Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Forza Italia leader Antonio Tajani on Thursday proposed lower contributions for low-wage earners as well as the government’s already announced plans for cuts in IRPEF personal income tax in the upcoming budget bill.
“With the budget, we’re primarily focusing on reducing the tax burden to help the middle class. This means reducing personal income tax from 35 to 33% and broadening the base to โฌ60,000,” Tajani told a press briefing.
“Then we can start thinking about the lowest-paid workers. Among those earning between โฌ7.50 and โฌ9 an hour, we can remove the portion of contributions these workers pay. This will ensure that those earning up to โฌ7.50 don’t pay, and those earning โฌ7.50 and above are considered gross wages.” Tajani explained that the proposal aims to ensure that “those below the poverty line can become middle class.” (ANSA).
