(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 23 – Premier Giorgia Meloni expressed delight after the Senate on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill on the crime of femicide so it can move to the Lower House for the definitive green light.
“I welcome with particular satisfaction the unanimous approval in the Senate of the government-initiated bill that aims to introduce the crime of feminicide as an autonomous felony in our legal system,” Meloni said in a statement.
“Italy is among the first nations to embark on this path, which we are convinced can help combat an intolerable scourge.
“I thank all the political parties, both from the ruling majority and opposition, for having compactly supported this proposal and for having contributed to improving it.
“Now the bill passes to the House and I hope the process can be concluded quickly”.
