(ANSA) – ROMA, 21 LUG – The ambassador of Italy to Mali, Stefano A. Dejak, participated in the International Diaspora Forum in Bamako, taking part in a discussion with the Minister for Malians Abroad and African Integration, Mossa ag Attaher, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger, Bakary Sangaré, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Jean Marie Karamoko, a statement from the Embassy of Italy in Mali announced. The discussion hinged on how to increase productive investments within the substantial flow of diaspora bank transfers from Europe to these African countries.
The Diaspora Forum was held July 17-19 with a focus on ‘Prospects and Challenges of a Diaspora at the Center of National Economic Development.’ Minister Mossa ag Attaher, opening the discussion, emphasized that increasing productive investment by the diaspora is a driver for increasing job opportunities, particularly for a Malian youth in urgent need of concrete alternatives to irregular migration.
Ambassador Dejak recalled that the Italian Development Cooperation, through the AICS Agency, is investing eight million euros precisely in favor of this goal: two million in a project through Ifad and six million to be given to civil society organizations with a preference for agricultural activities and special attention to the role of women and youth. The Italian contribution was particularly appreciated by the Malian representative, Mossa ag Attaher, who not surprisingly invited Italy to participate in the Malian Diaspora Forum. The Forum was also attended by a substantial representation of the Malian diaspora in Italy, who did not fail to publicly express their appreciation for the role of Italian Cooperation in Mali. The Forum was also attended by the director of the regional AICS in Dakar, Giovanni Grandi, assisted by the AICS representative in Mali, Claudia Berlendis, the statement concluded.
