(ANSA) – ROMA, 06 AGO – Italy is committed to “sharing its experience in emergency prevention and management, also in light of the impact of climate change,” and is “increasingly investing in prevention, rather than in disaster response, which is a cost.” This was said by the Ambassador of Italy to Mongolia, Giovanna Piccarreta, opening the conference aimed at consulting key Mongolian stakeholders as part of a project promoted by the Italian Civil Protection Department. “Italy and Mongolia,” the Ambassador stressed, “share some morphological characteristics, such as susceptibility to earthquakes, floods, and fires, which make an exchange of experiences in disaster risk management interesting.
The conference, in collaboration with the Cima Foundation, Eucentre Foundation and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, with financial support from Maeci-Dgmo, was attended by Eng. Agostino Goretti (Italian Civil Protection Department) and Dr. Roberto Rudari (Director of Programs at the Cima Foundation); they explained the Italian approach to infrastructure resilience and prevention, and led the thematic discussions.
The objective of the meeting was to gather the priorities of Mongolian institutional actors in the field of resilient infrastructure in order to design training activities and technical visits to Italy in the next phase of the project. The meeting was held at the headquarters of Mongolia’s National Emergency Management Agency, and General Ariunbuyan Gombojav, head of the Asian country’s Emergency Management Agency, also spoke.
