(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 21 – A man of Ukrainian origin allegedly involved in the September 2022 Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions between Russia and Europe has been arrested in Italy, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.
The 49-year-old Ukrainian man, identified only as Serhii Ki, was arrested overnight by paramilitary Carabinieri police at San Clemente, in the province of Rimini, and had been on vacation in Italy with his family for several days, sources said.
He was charged by the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office with involvement in the two Nord Stream explosions, over which Russia and Ukraine have traded accusations.
The man was taken to prison and is awaiting the execution of a European arrest warrant by the Bologna Court of Appeal.
He was apparently identified through a search. According to reports, the man was allegedly on a yacht chartered for the alleged sabotage on the pipeline on September 26, 2022.
Neither Ukraine or any other country has been implicated in the sabotage of the pipeline. (ANSA).
