(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 19 – AC Milan and its fans are waiting to learn about Rafael Leao’s condition after tests today Tuesday, or possibly Wednesday, following a right calf injury he sustained in his season debut at San Siro in the round of 32 of the Coppa Italia against Bari, in which he scored in a 2-0 win.
But immediately after the goal that broke the deadlock, the Portuguese felt his calf tighten.
He looked at the bench, the medical staff intervened, but Gimenez was already ready to replace him.
These images have worried the 70,000 fans at San Siro and everyone at home, as his presence in Saturday’s league opener against Cremonese is unclear, and there’s currently no guarantee he’ll be playing.
Furthermore, Leao’s actual condition also impacts the transfer market.
Noah Okafor, in fact, is reportedly ready to join Leeds for around €15 million.
But Milan first wants to know the extent of their number 10’s injury: if it’s not serious, they’ll give the green light for the Swiss forward to leave, otherwise everything will be on hold.
In short, it’s a mix-up that Milan would have gladly avoided, especially since they still need to secure a reinforcement in attack, with negotiations still not easy.
Regardless of the wait, coach Massimiliano Allegri can only be satisfied with his Milan performance. Leao and Pulisic’s more advanced positions immediately paid off with two goals, and the new players are settling in well.
And while Estupinan still seems to need work, Ricci is intercepting and setting the pace like a solid, organized playmaker.
The midfield has truly strengthened with the arrival of Jashari and Modric, and Milan’s play now has greater quality.
Of course, there haven’t been any tough matches so far; Sunday’s Coppa Italia match wasn’t, and it can’t be against newly promoted Cremonese.
But Allegri, who was delighted that the team hadn’t suffered any injuries during the long summer preparations, now has to deal with the uncertainty surrounding the key player in his game.
